Between Nostalgic Utopia and Present Returns
Yael Messer's lecture from Tohu Magazine conference - Space is the Place: Afrofuturism, Arabfuturism and the Search for New Dimensions
Inspired by the writing and practice of the architecture studio “DAAR” and their concept of the “Returns,” (Sandi Hilal, Alessandro Petti, and Eyal Weizman, Architecture after Revolution, Berlin: Sternberg Press, 2013) this lecture will look at several art projects imagining the day after the end of the Zionist regime . In place of a singular vision into the future, artists Michael Blum, Thalia Hoffman, and others offer different possible scenarios, bringing into question core issues such as refugeehood, homeland, and return.
